Novi Sad

Novi Sad is the capital of the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, and the administrative centre of the South Backa District. The city is located in the southern part of Pannonian Plain on the Danube river and in the northern parts of the Fruska Gora. Today, Novi Sad, the second most important cultural center of Serbia (after Belgrade) and city authorities are trying to make the city more attractive by organizing numerous cultural events and music concerts. Since 2000. the Exit music festival is held in Novi Sad, and it is the biggest summer music festival in Serbia and the region. Novi Sad is the host of the only Festival of Alternative and New Theatre in Serbia - INFANT, then Zmajeve decije igre - the most famous festival of children's literature, Sterijino pozorje, Novi Sad Jazz Festival, Days of Brazil, Novi Sad International Literary Festival and many others. Besides Serbian National Theatre, the other famous theaters in the city are Youth Theatre and Novi Sad Theatre. In the Novi Sad synagogue there are also numerous cultural events. Other important cultural institutions in the city are the branch of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences, Academy of Sciences and Arts of Vojvodina, Library of Matica Srpska with about 3,000,000 publications, the City Library of Novi Sad, the Historical Archives in Novi Sad, Vojvodina Archives (which keeps many historical documents from the area of Vojvodina, which dates back to 1565.)
