Nis


Nis is a city in southern Serbia, situated on the river Nisava with 250.518 inhabitants is the second largest city in Serbia. Nis covers an area of 597m ˛. Throughout its long history, Nis was a part of many empires and states, playing the role of the administrative, military and trade center and important transportation link to the Roman road Via militaris, later called the Imperial road, which connected Europe and Asia. The National Museum was established in 1933 and now has about 40,000 exhibits; important archaeological collections from prehistoric and Roman objects from the Mediana; in the museum presented exhibits are from the Middle Ages and modern times.
